Completion Requirements

To graduate from the Professional Master’s Program, students must complete the following requirements within 30 months::

Approved credit count totaling at least 24 credits, as determined by the Credit Evaluation Committee;
Minimum GPA of 7.5 in 7xx-level courses, excluding technical and professional training activities.

Approval of the final version of the thesis by the advisor and the Provost for Graduate Studies and Research, within the deadlines established by the thesis examination committee.

Successful defense of the thesis before the examination committee.

Each Professional Master’s track may establish additional requirements for degree completion, such as a qualifying examination or a manuscript prepared for publication.

Qualifying Examination

The purpose of the Qualifying Examination is to assess the breadth and depth of the student’s knowledge, as well as the critical thinking skills required for the development of the Professional Master’s Thesis.Students must successfully complete the Qualifying Examination within a maximum of three academic semesters after initial enrollment in the program. One failure is permitted, provided that the examination is retaken and successfully completed within the established deadline. To schedule the examination, the student must submit a formal request to the Academic Office:

 
The Qualifying Examination Committee is appointed by the Area Coordinator at the student’s request and consists of at least three members, including the advisor, the co-advisor (Industrial Advisor), and at least one internal faculty member. The Qualifying Examination consists of:
 
  • Submission to the committee members, at least seven (7) days in advance, of a monograph written in Portuguese or English, including the research proposal, methodology, partial results, and a plan for the remaining activities;
  • An oral presentation, in Portuguese or English, lasting up to 30 minutes;
  • An oral examination, during which each committee member evaluates the presented materials..

Exame de Inglês

O aluno matriculado em curso de Mestrado Profssional deve ser aprovado em um exame de conhecimento de língua inglesa, no prazo de 1 ano após sua primeira matrícula. Este exame pode ser realizado das seguintes formas:

1. Como parte do processo seletivo do aluno.

2. Internamente no ITA. Neste caso o aluno deve preencher o requerimento de exame de inglês (ver arquivo anexo abaixo) e entregar na secretaria da Divisão de Pós-graduação, que indicará um professor do ITA para a aplicação do exame. Este exame consiste na tradução de trechos de textos técnicos.

3. Externamente ao ITA. Neste caso o aluno deve entregar, na secretaria da Divisão de Pós-graduação e Pesquisa, cópia do comprovante de um dos seguintes exames, acompanhado do requerimento de exame de inglês (ver arquivo anexo abaixo):

  • TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), aprovação para 550 pontos ou mais.
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), aprovação para 460 pontos ou mais (ITP), 57 pontos ou mais (IBT).
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System), aprovação para nota 3,5 ou superior.
  • Exame da Universidade de Cambridge FCE (First Certificate in English), aprovação para nível C (45) ou superior.
